Preparation

Your doctor will discuss your procedure with you.

Shortly after your procedure is scheduled, you will receive a letter from the center confirming your procedure date and possibly information regarding financial obligations. You will receive a phone call from a member of our staff two days before your visit.

At this time, your medical information will be reviewed and you will receive important instructions concerning your procedure. If you have no telephone or are difficult to reach, we ask that you call the Endoscopy Center one week prior to your procedure at 240-313-9807 between 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. It is extremely important that you receive some pre-procedure instructions, otherwise, your procedure may be cancelled.

If you are scheduled to have anesthesia or sedation during your procedure, you MUST make arrangements for someone to drive you home. The person driving you home must be at least 18 years of age and a licensed driver. If you must travel by public transportation (taxi), you will need a responsible adult (age 18) to accompany you home. If you are unable to arrange an escort, please inform us as soon as possible, as it will be necessary to reschedule your procedure.

We STRONGLY RECOMMEND having someone stay with you until the next day.

If a change occurs in your physical condition prior to your procedure, please notify your doctor and the Endoscopy Center immediately. Your doctor may wish to reschedule your procedure.

Pain control is important for your recovery as well as your comfort. Please work with your physician and health care professionals to manage your pain. We will ask you to measure or rate your pain on a number scale (0-10) or with descriptive words. Reporting your pain helps your health care providers know how well your treatment is working and whether any changes need to be made.
